About IIT JAM

IITJAM, acronym for Indian Institute of Technology – Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. isan all-India online entrance exam conducted by Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) each year on a rotational basis on behalf of Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India. IIT JAM exam is conducted in seven Science subjects (also referred to as test papers) primarily Biological Science, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Mathematical Statistics– in order to provide admission to candidates in MSc and other post-bachelor courses offered at IITs and integrated PhD courses offered at Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. Several National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) also accept JAM scores for MSc admissions.

Eligibility Criteria for IIT JAM

The candidates in order to be eligible for IIT JAM Chemistry should hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least 55% aggregate marks with Chemistry as the main subject at graduation level and Mathematics as a compulsory subject in Class XII (50% for SC/ ST/ PwD category candidates). Candidates who have appeared or will appear for their graduation exams in 2018 are also eligible to apply. Besides the proof for minimum educational qualification, candidates also need to submit a physical fitness certificate at the time of admissions. Candidates found unfit to pursue his/her Science course can be denied admission by the admitting institute.

IIT JAM Admission process

For IIT JAM 2018 registrations, candidates need to apply for the exam in the online mode. Candidates need to visit the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) link present on the official website of the exam and fill the IIT JAM 2018 application form there.

IIT JAM 2018 application fee also needs to be paid in the online mode( Rs 1,500 for one test paper and Rs 2,100 for two test papers/ Rs 750 and Rs 1,050 for SC/ ST/ PwD) only via net banking/ debit card/ credit card. It may be noted that candidates can apply for maximum two test papers at a time. But for appearing for the second test paper, candidates need to pay an additional application fee.

Download IIT JAM Admit Card

Candidates can download their IIT JAM 2018 admit cards from the official website of the exam. After downloading the admit card, candidates need to take a print out of it and carry it to the allotted exam centre along with a valid ID proof (original).

Candidates not carrying the admit card and ID proof might not be allowed to appear for JAM 2018 exam.

After qualifying the exam, the candidate needs to fill the admission form online. Only one test paper will be considered if the candidate has appeared for, and cleared both Test papers.

A candidate runs the risk of rejection if the admission form is found incomplete in any way

Candidates should note that finding their name in the merit lists does not automatically entitle them to admission

Candidates are accepted based upon their rank and the availability of seats in the admitting institute.
